El Salvador

If you are in search of an authentic Central American vacation, head to the small off-the-beaten-path country of El Salvador (the 'Saviour' in Spanish) where miles of gorgeous Pacific coast, pristine beaches, craggy mountains, sprawling green hills, endangered tropical forest, several extinct volcanoes, beautiful wildlife, breathtaking waterfalls and friendly welcoming people beckon. This tiny tropical land is home to historical cities, colonial architecture and cobblestone streets waiting to be explored. El Salvador offers an endless amount of sites and tours to see, including Lago De Coatepeque, La Libertad, Montecristo Cloud Forest, San Jacinto Mountain and Bosque El Imposible National Park. El Salvador vacation is something special and not-to-be-missed!

The roughly rectangular-shaped El Salvador, the smallest Spanish-speaking nation in the Western Hemisphere, is located on the western side of the Central American isthmus, bounded by Guatemala to the west and Honduras to the north, covering an overall area of 21,041 sq km. The terrain is mostly mountainous with narrow coastal belt and central plateau. The highest point reaches over 1,800 meters. El Salvador has over 300 rivers, the most important of which is the Rio Lempa. There are also numerous lakes of volcanic origin many of which are surrounded by mountains.

El Salvador enjoys hot, tropical climate and is characterized by two seasons: November to April are verano or summer months and the wet season otherwise called invierno is between May to October. The coastal areas are the hottest with average temperatures hovering between 22C and 32C, while upland areas have a cooler, more temperate climate. The beginning or end of the dry season is the best time to visit El Salvador.

San Salvador, the second largest city in Central America, is the bustling capital of El Salvador, located at the foot of the San Salvador Volcano in Valle de las Hamazas (the Valley of the Hammocks), hosting over 800,000 people. The city is famous for its modern shopping malls, including Galerias, Moma Linsa, and Lutiplaxa mall, vibrant nightlife, museums, like the Museo de la Palabra y la Imagen (the Word and the Image Museum), and historic attractions including the National Palace and the National Cathedral. You can arrange many daytrips from San Salvador, including a trip to Lake IIopango, the San Salvador Volcano and much more.

Things to do in El Salvador range from tropical rainforest excursions to repelling down the spectacular waterfalls. The country's main tourist attraction still remains its stunning beaches ideal for surfing and swimming, one of them being Costa del Sol, known for its white sand, great hotel and restaurants. Fishing excursions are also popular in El Salvador with a wide choice of species of deep water game fishes, like Tuna fish, Blue Marlin, Mackarel and Blue Crevally. Other activities you can indulge in include canoeing and whitewater rafting, snorkeling, sailing and boat racing, hiking and trekking expeditions to the volcanoes, lakes and rivers.

Holidays in El Salvador mean warm sunny days, great food to enjoy all day long, excellent accommodation options, endless fun and exciting things to do, as well as full relaxation in a friendly hospitable atmosphere far from masses of tourists!
