Guide to vacations in Lanai

Welcome to Lanai, the so called 'Pineapple Island.' First discovered by Captain Cook's crew in 1779, Lanai is also known as Hawaii's most exclusive island. Once the nation's biggest pineapple patch, Lanai is now one of the world's top tropical destinations, a good place to experience Old Hawaii. You will begin to feel the Aloha Spirit as soon as you step from your plane. Thought the smallest of Hawaii's inhabited Islands (with population of 3,000), the island yet encompasses every imaginable service in order to make your vacation an experience of a lifetime with many lasting fond memories.

The pristine, unspoiled island of Lanai boasts intriguing history, spectacular scenic beauty, sunny white-sand beaches, rugged pine forest, crystal-clear waters perfect for exploring coral reefs, mysterious locations and a plethora of attractions and activities which make it a unique getaway. Located nearly in the middle of the Hawaiian Islands, Lanai is the six largest island covering a land area of 365 sq km with 75 km of shoreline, which makes us think that one can explore the entire island even in case of short vacation. Lanai's diverse geography and dramatic topography make the island such a wonderful place to visit. The highest peak on the island is Lana'ihale, a rainforest reaching an elevation of more than 3,000 feet. Lanai enjoys a subtropical varied climate moderated by prevailing easterly winds with average temperatures ranging between 19°C and 22°C.

Known as Hawaii's 'Most Enticing Island', Lanai is home to some of the most ideal pure white sand beaches, including Hulopoe Beach, Lopa Beach and Sharks Bay. Hulopoe Beach is truly one of Hawaii's best beaches, located on the south east coast of Lanai. It is probably the most popular swimming and picnicking beach, offering some of the best snorkeling due to its clear waters and rich marine life with loads of colorful fish and other marine habitats. Lanai is home to man-made attractions, including the two world-class championship golf courses that have received plenty of rewards throughout the year: the Challenge at Manele, designed by Jack Nicklaus and the Experience in Koele, designed by legends Greg Norman Ted Robinson, promising full leisure and entertainment. While playing golf enjoy awe-inspiring vistas of the surrounding lush tropical forests and rugged mountains, as well as the sweeping vistas of the coastline.

Lanai activities include land and sea adventures and tours, hiking and biking trails with camping opportunities, 4-wheel driving, sports and recreation, including horseback riding, diving, snorkeling, tennis as well as whale and dolphin watching.

Accommodations in Lanai offer a few vacation homes for short term rental and three hotels, two of which are upscale Four Seasons golf resorts, nestled into vastly different environments, presenting both ocean and highlands landscapes: Manele Bay Resort and the upcountry Lodge at Koele featuring utmost room amenities and facilities. Hotel Lanai is a small historic hotel in Lanai City, built in 1923, by James Dole as lodging for Dole plantation executives.
